Annual Competition Rules (note: rule (3) was amended by the committee on 5th June 2017)

1. A novice entry must be one members own work i.e. Camera, editing, voice over etc. 
2. One or two named members may produce Holiday/Travel, Documentary, Fiction or Unclassified entries. 
3. No single entry may exceed 20 minutes running time. 
4. A member may enter more than one film in the competition but the total running time of all the entries must not exceed 30 minutes. 
5. Closing date for entry forms to be handed in will be as published in the program. 
6. DVD entries may contain more than one film, provided they are itemised on the start menu.  
     All entries must be clearly marked with Name and Titles on both the disk and case.

A member may use any person (even a non member) for Commentary or voice-over (Excepting Novice)

Any Film submitted for a Competition run by Mercury Movie Makers should contain moving pictures captured on a Movie Camera or DSLR set up to take moving pictures. Only in exceptional circumstances should any Still photographs be introduced, and these should not control more that 10% of the film.

Definition of classes 

Novice

Picture
The Geoffrey Bolton Trophy 
A member who has not won an award in this or any other club including the IAC. 
1 Winner only 

Holiday/Travel 

Picture
The John Rose Trophy 
A general Holiday or Travel movie. 
Awards for Winner, Runner up and Certificate of Merit 

Documentary 

Picture
The Alan Sidi / Andorra Trophy 
A factual movie report of any subject or activity. 
Awards for Winner, Runner up and Certificate of Merit 

Fiction

Picture
The N & J Goodwin Trophy 
A product of the imagination or invented story. 
Awards for Winner and Runner up 

Unclassified

Picture
The Longstaffe trophy
An entry not thought to fit into any of the above sections. 
Awards for Winner, Runner up and Certificate of Merit 

Open Class

Picture
The Olicana trophy
An entry fitting any of the above classes (except novice) which is the work of THREE 
or more members or the work of ONE member with outside assistance.
